These oil studies on paper are like a private ‘sketchbook.' Quick a la prima notations; I use them to test an idea or to explore a color scheme or composition. Most are painted late at night with a care-free approach that I wish I could maintain at all times. Most are on toned BFK printing paper sized with shellac, which has a slick, smooth surface that allows my brush to dance across the paper.
