Plein Air Landscapes in Oil

Location: Academy Art Museum, Easton, Maryland
Workshop Dates: -
Contact Person: TBA -- SORRY, THIS CLASS WAS CANCELLED

SORRY, THIS YEAR'S EASTON WORKSHOP WAS CANCELED
(Dates of workshop were 5/11/2010 - 5/14/2010)

For the past several years, I have been teaching weekend  landscape painting workshops. The programs generally start on Friday evening with a PowerPoint lecture and orientation (complete with prepared hand-outs and sample materials), and are followed by two full-day painting sessions on location.  I begin both days with a  demonstration painting; by late morning students are working on their own, and I circulate among them offering suggestions and  individual critiques. Most students work on a second canvas after lunch.  We close the weekend with a wrap-up and group critique.

If the weather is really bad, we'll work indoors from studies or from photographs.  I am careful only to choose workshop venues that offer quality rainy-day studio space.

The May 2010 workshop listed above will be hosted by the Academy Art Museum, in picturesque Easton, Maryland, on the Eastern Shore. Rather than my usual weekend workshop, this class will be a four-day mid-week program. It will adapt the weekend formula described above, with an additional day for painting in the field. I expect that all of us will benefit from the extra time to get to know one another, and to work on our plein air skills.

Please feel free to contact me directly if you have additional questions.

You can download a list of workshop materials here.

Easton was the only class I had confirmed for 2010, although other workshop possibilities are in the works.  By this fall, my newly renovated barn annex hopefully will be ready to serve as a back up (rainy day) work space, and I may begin teaching classes from my home studio.

Check back again soon to see if other dates are added to the schedule.
